Filmmaker Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui is busy promoting his film No Lands Man these days. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is in the lead role in this film. Earlier Mustafa has worked with late actor Irrfan Khan in the film No Bed of Roses. Irfan passed away last year. Reminiscing his memories with Irrfan, Bangladeshi filmmaker Mustafa, in a conversation with Dainik Jagran’s affiliate newspaper Mid Day, says that Irrfan was keen to make a Hindi remake of the Bengali film Ant Story directed by me. This film was released in the year 2013.
I made this film in Bengali under the name ‘Piprabidya’. He bought the rights to it. He had paid for it too. He saw this film on Netflix. He was not able to start it as he was busy with his other projects. His passing is a great loss to the cinema world. We have not only lost a great artist but also a great human being. I always used to tell him that he is not only an actor but also a poet. Whereas Nawazuddin’s starts No Lands Man is the story of a South Asian man. Things get complicated when he meets an Australian woman in the US.
The film deals with ‘fascism’ and ‘identity crisis. The film was screened at the prestigious Busan Film Festival held in the past. Apart from Nawaz, it also stars Tehsan Rehman Khan and Esha Chopra in lead roles. This is Nawaz’s first English film. He has previously done the International Series McMafia.
Let us tell you that the sudden demise of Irrfan Khan shook the whole country. He was suffering from a serious disease like a neuroendocrine tumor for a long time. Although Irfan Khan also got it treated. Jindadil Irfan kept fighting till the last moment of his life. He was last seen in the film ‘Angrezi Medium’. Irrfan Khan could not promote this film due to his illness, but before the trailer of this film, he had given such a special message to his fans, which his fans still remember.
