‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is proving to be a nightmare for Akshay Kumar and the makers. Made with the support of Yash Raj Films, one of the largest production houses in India, the film is facing huge losses. In most places, the shows had to be canceled due to less number of viewers. If the reports are to be believed then this magnum opus is in huge loss of more than 100 crores. Although the makers have charged a hefty amount for the OTT release of the film, it is a question to think about where it will compensate for this huge loss.
This year has not been very good for Akshay Kumar. Bachchan Pandey, which was released on the day of Holi, flopped badly, later people rejected ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ made at a cost of more than 250 crores. The film was embroiled in controversies from its early days. Promotion is also being cited as a reason behind its failure. Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s film received mixed reviews after its release, which brought a good dent in its earnings.

Pre-release business is very important for any film to go into profit. Talking about ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, the film has reportedly earned around 120 crores through OTT and satellite rights deals. It is huge, but even this figure is not able to cross the boat of Emperor Prithviraj. According to media reports, the cost of the film is Rs 280 crore. So far this period drama film by Akshay has earned only around 50 crores on the domestic platform. If you add 120 crores and 50, then this number reaches 170 crores only. Still, 110 crores are left, which makes it stand in the category of a super flop.
